Description
The original A Little Book of Grieving was created by Felix Hewison-Carter as a hand sewn 20 page fabric booklet, produced in cotton, felt tip and typewriter on fabric, sewn into a booklet. This is a facsimile printed on 250gsm uncoated paper. Faithful to the original as a recording of a one-off item produced by a Norwich maker. The printed version has an extra 4pp section which acts as a container for a rather beautiful act of love and memory.
When chronic pain forced Felix to find things she could do slowly on the sofa, embroidered stories, observations and histories became a useful distraction – and one that other people seemed to appreciate too.
Living in Norwich with husband and daughter, she draws on her former career as a project planner to corral a whirling mess of ideas for fabric, fibre and/or words into things that might actually happen. Mostly, she just enjoys putting things into the world that weren’t there before.
What people say
‘In just a few simple words and images, Felix Hewison-Carter has somehow managed to make a map through the bottomless free-fall of grief. “Here,” the stitches say, “here you are.” In that, there is the comfort of knowing you are not alone, and – miraculous – the sense of a way on. You will want to put your hands to it and trace its lines, in aching familiarity and in thanks. It is extraordinary.’
