Celebrating another brutalist behemoth which features large in the consciousness of anyone who has ever been anywhere near the UEA. These hive like buildings have housed generations of students, and featured in some parties I once went to, they also look nice and cleverly follow the contour of the land as it rises above the Yare Valley backing on to the teaching wall. The basis of these was arrived at in 1962 by Denys Lasdun, the concepts and designs were presented in 1963 when the University of East Anglia opened. Construction was completed in 1967. Lasdun is famous for his brutalist stuff, his work features across the concretescapes of Britain, from Keeling House in Bethnal Green to the Royal National Theatre at the Southbank. I love him.
