Somme Mud
Guillemont, Somme, France.
The scene of fierce fighting in September 1916. The ground is littered with memory – shrapnel balls, chalky fragments of bone, shirt buttons and shrapnel flaking orange. Junger was here, and much later so was I, my car nearby at the end of a rain-sodden walk, bound in the cloying brown mud, eventually freed by a local man with a rusty Renault Espace and a rope.

Actual paper size is larger including the white border.

These prints are printed as black and white images and are chroma-sealed. Sizes are approximate.
